My name is Tom, and I’m a developer. Not very specific, I know, but I’d like to keep it that way. That way I have the opportunity to try a lot more things than if I said “Software Developer” or “Web Designer”.
I did start training to become a secondary school teacher. Didn’t enjoy teaching IT to whole classes, it’s hard to adjust to suit everyone. This has however left me with quite a bit of experience in education (All of the placements and lectures) and is still something I have a strong interest in. I much prefer working with small groups on interesting new projects, or even interesting old projects, which is why I realised teaching wasn’t right for me.
I have a portfolio available, which you can have a look at to see what I can do. I’m very honest on it – there’s nothing worse than putting “C++ experience” after reading a book once, only to find that you are in charge of a C++ codebase with millions of lines in it.
And if you really want to you can find me on Twitter as Tjomas. Don’t expect much, I tend to forget it exists as something to post on, and then when I do they’re of the typical pointless “Argh, I hate snow” variety.
I also have some other old, now not used social networking debris – Myspace. Nothing is up to date and I very rarely log on. Venture there at your own peril. I don’t use anything else, having come the the conclusion that it’s more hassle than it’s worth.
